Picturing High Streets

Picturing High Streets is a project aiming to revive and celebrate the UK high street using socially engaged photography practise. In June 2021 I was commissioned by Open Eye Gallery and Historic England to work in Prescot in Knowsley, Merseyside with the aim of engaging communities to reimagine the high street and create a contemporary portrait of Prescot High Street. As part of this project, I have been working with a group of children from Prescot Primary school, which is an Apple Distinguished School, meaning that every child has their own iPad to support their learning. Using the iPad cameras, we explored the idea of portraiture, perspective, and place.

Work from this project is currently being exhibited at Shakespeare North Theatre, Prescot.

I was interviewed by Photoworks about the project and a link to this can be found here.

Picturing High Streets is produced in partnership with Photoworks, GRAIN ProjectsImpressions GalleryOpen Eye GalleryPARC (Photography and the Archive Research Centre)PhotofusionQUAD/FORMATRedeyeReFramed and The Photographers’ Gallery.
